Enterprise Explorer enforces a system of rules on how entities relate to each other, to ensure that invalid tree structures can never be created. This chart shows which types of entities can be 'nested' under which other types (parent along the top, child on left).

Note that Aggregations, Dashboards, and Diagrams are not shown along the top axis because they cannot have child entities.

Entity Group Y Y Y Y Y

* = Reserved Entity Group Only for these entity types

** = Links only supported for this child

An entity can never be a descendant or ancestor of itself, whether it's a regular entity or a link. A link can't be a descendant or ancestor of the regular entity, and vice-versa, as well as the entities and links themselves.

A link can never link to itself, and a link can never be created in reserved groups.
